Profile
Gavin Ronald (Gavin) Oliver was born on 6th September 1962 at Felling, Gateshead, Northumberland. He became an apprentice with Sheffield Wenesday and signed professional forms in August 1980. He was not able to command a regular spot at Hillsborough and went on loan to Tranmere Rovers in January 1983, scoring once in seventeen starts. He was later loaned to Brighton & Hove Albion in August 1985 and made fifteen starts and one sub appearance. At Six foot and twelve stone eleven pounds, he was ideally built for a central defender and after making his debut for Wednesday on his eighteenth birthday at Oldham Athleic he thought he had a bright future at Hillsborough, but by the time he played his final game in a 1-1 home draw with Liverpool he had only managed fourteen starts and six substitute appearances in the League together with a further two starts and one substitute appearance in the F.A. Cup and two starts and three games from the bench in the League Cup. He joined Bradford City in November 1985 and scored nine goals in three hundred and eight starts and five substitute appearances in the League, before retiring in 1994. After retiring he became Bradford City's Football in the Community Officer.
